Time for our Annual Kentucky Derby Party!

Wow, where does the time go! It is time for our Annual Kentucky Derby Party! So start getting your hats ready! Its the first Saturday of May! Mark your calendars! We have loads of fun and a hat contest! What will the prizes be this year? Can't wait to see what everyone comes up with.

Just sitting and watching the horses go by!

Well its been months now since I had the several surgeries on my knee and major back surgery. It has been a rough ride! I have been unable to ride or handle horses and haven't been out at the barn much since the new baby was born. She is getting so big already. Hoping to get some new photos of her soon. Spring has sprung around here and the wild flowers have bloomed all over out in area. We live very close to all roads and towns that have all the Bluebonnets and Indian Paint Brush. It is such a beautiful site to see.

Foaling Time!

Wow, I can't believe it is already time for our new babies to arrive. We are due to have one in just a couple of weeks and the second one a month later. I am kinda glad that they are spread apart this time. Gives me a bit of time in between to take a little nap. ;) Last year we had both colts within a few days of each other. It is nice having two babies at once though when it comes time to wean them as they have a buddy to keep them company through the process. We like to wean by just taking them away from their mommies and being done with it but I have heard of people doing it by putting the babies in a stall next to them for a few days first or across the fence. I have a hard time during the weaning season myself. I don't like to hear the babies cry for their mommies. Maybe I will do a little blogging this year on the foaling process. It is really very exciting. Leave me a comment and let me know what you think.

HummingBirds!

So the last few days have been crazy with hummingbirds at my back porch. At the beginning of summer I had put up one feeder and had one hummingbird the first day and then the next day I had about 8 and then I had about 30. Then they went away. Must have migrated north. Now they must be migrating back down south and this time there must be about 50 of them. I have never had that many before so it is really neat. I have run out of sugar and must pick some up today when I go to town.
My recipe is simple. Just one cup of sugar to 4 cups of water and that's it. They seem to love it. Here is a photo and video of them at the feeder.

Sold to Israel!

Well, we can now call ourselves International Sellers. We sold two of our mares to a man in Israel. They already left and are at their new home. What a process for exporting! There were several tests to do within several weeks and lots of paperwork. I have to give my vets office a lot of credit for taking care of all of that. Johara and Ameenah is who left us and I am already missing them. How could you not miss girls like them. They are so beautiful and both had such great personalities. Johara was the first baby born on my farm and I just can't believe she is no longer here. It will take sometime to get used to her being gone and of course Ameenah too. Who know maybe I will get to visit them one day!
Photo is of Johara and I!

Round Top Antique Show

Every year Mom and I go to the Round Top Antique show. This year is no different except we are bringing along my Aunt Helen and my niece Bentley.  This is the time of year that all the famous wildflowers are starting to bloom. We haven't had much rain but I have seen a few of them already. Maybe we will get some cute photos of Bentley sitting in the flowers. So now Off To The Show!
